«Lviv Melody» — Art Project of Dzvinha Quintet feat. Andriy Pohorilko
Kobza art is a unique phenomenon not only in Ukrainian but in world music culture as well. For centuries its performers have kept inward gene pool of Ukrainian nation, developed and upheld national consciousness, handed generation evolution down through kobzar songs about famous historical events and praised heroic figures of Ukrainian nation.
Long ago kobza players used kobzas and banduras (as technically improved musical instrument) to accompany their songs and ballads.
The group of bandura players “Lviv melody” use Chernihiv variant of bandura which has 55 strings (including 12 bass strings) and is distinguished by especially pleasing and sonorous sound. The creative combination of bandura and violin sounding has existed within chapel of bandura players “Dzvinha” since 2002.
The repertoire of the group contains Ukrainian folk and modern songs, classical music from the world treasury, instrumental and vocal compositions of Ukrainian and foreign authors, folk compositions of different nations of the world. Most of the group participants have musical education. And though all of them work or study at the educational institutions according to their interests, they have been connected with music, in particular with bandura, for more than 10 years.
The chapel of bandura players “Dzvinha” took part in many All-Ukrainian and international festivals, competitions, played in West Europe tours, many times it was awarded with prizes for high music skills.
